Background

BBC has sought to follow the biblical imperative to “go into all the world and make disciples”. This mission statement has served BBC well in the past. There are, however, a variety of views on how this mission should be implemented within BBC, and there is an increasing sense that BBC needs a more specific mission statement that will allow even greater focus into the future. There are several areas, for example, the evangelism ministry, where a detailed a more specific BBC mission statement will be helpful.
In addition, there are several other open issues that need to be considered by leadership, and these are itemised below:

  • The deacons have been dealing with both leadership and operational matters over the last year.
  • The responsibility for leadership matters needs to be reviewed
  • BBC does not have a vision statement that defines “what BBC wants to be in the future”. There is a need for a vision statement that is both motivating and unifying.
  • The Alpha course was used as the major thrust for evangelism in past years. It is felt that the course has been saturated in the community and that a new evangelism thrust is needed for BBC.There are several ideas on what a evangelism strategy
  • There has been debate on who the Sunday services should be aimed at and what need they address. The Sunday services need to be reviewed to see that they are meeting the right need in the optimal manner.

In the light of the above, a project has been initiated to address some of the above issues, and the project is outlined in the remainder of this document.

  • For me the biggest issue is that the church is becoming more and more irrelevant. We have done things the same with only incremental changes for the last 10 years.
Before we start looking at any radical changes we need to stand back and take stock of what we believe God wants us to be as an organisation.

  • I would change Sunday services to be the morning service. I think a lot of this work has already been done for the evening service with the 13:30 positioning but we don't want the morning service to be left behind.
